Sean Michael McKee, 53, of Bettendorf, IA, formerly of Monmouth, IL, passed away at 9:43 am, Friday, June 2, 2023, peacefully at home after a short battle with recurrent colon cancer.
Sean was born on November 6, 1969 in Burlington, Iowa. He is the son of Billy Dean McKee and Jane (Henson) McKee.
He was raised and educated primarily in Monmouth and graduated from Warren High School in 1988. He graduated from Monmouth College in 1993 with a Double Major in Computer Science and Art.
Sean married Kelly Lyn Montroy in Roseville, IL at the Living Light Tabernacle on June 23, 2001, and she survives.
Sean was the Senior Network Systems Engineer at RiverStone Group, Inc. in Davenport, Iowa. He began working at RiverStone Group 19 years ago, in 2004. Prior to that, he had been employed at Caterpillar in Peoria, IL and Knox Office Equipment in Galesburg, IL. He had a knack for all things IT related and made it his career.
Sean was a founding member of Connect Church of the Quad Cities. He was a great man of faith and integrity. One of his favorite verses was John 13:34 “A new commandment I give unto you, that ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another.”
He enjoyed shooting guns for sport and hunting, reloading ammo, driving around his Jeep “Rubi”, vacationing in all sorts of fun places, and going to the gym regularly and working out. He was a phenomenal cook and grill master. He was also learning constantly by watching YouTube videos to educate himself on how something worked or needed repaired. He was extremely handy and could fix or build nearly anything. Sean was also very artistic and could draw well.
Sean is survived by his wife, Kelly McKee of Bettendorf; his children, Greyson Sean McKee of Burlington, IA and Madalyn (Maddie) Grace McKee of Davenport, IA; his mother, Jane Flowers of Colorado Springs, CO and his brother Joel (Christina) Carlston of Casper, WY; brothers and sisters in laws, aunts, uncles, several nieces, nephews and cousins on both sides of the family. Also surviving is his dog, Maverick.
He was preceded in death by his father, B. D. McKee; his mother-in-law, Linda Nickols; his father-in-law, James (Jim) Montroy, Sr.; and his step father, Richard Flowers.
A gathering of family and friends will be from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Thursday, June 8, 2023 at Connect Church of the Quad Cities, 3705 Fairhaven Rd, Davenport, IA.
An additional gathering of family and friends will be from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Friday, June 9, 2023 at McGuire & Davies Funeral Home and Crematory, Monmouth, IL
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 10, 2023 at McGuire & Davies Funeral Home and Crematory, Monmouth, IL. Interment will be at Monmouth Cemetery.
A memorial fund has been established for Grace Bible Food Pantry of Moline, IL and Connect Church of the Quad Cities.
The previously scheduled fundraiser at The Q, 905 Middle Road, Bettendorf, IA on Sunday, June 11, 2023 at 2 p.m. will still be held in Sean’s honor and memory.
