As we head into pollinating season in Illinois, Warren-Henderson Farm Bureau President Jake Armstrong says the crops are looking good with all things considered; however, the fields will still need some help from Mother Nature in the last half:
“I have just been talking with people coming through the elevator and they are all just kind of ho-humming right now, but it looks pretty good with all things considered. We will have a crop. How big it is, we will see. Work with your local elevators on pricing and contracts. If you think you are going to be short on things you sold, there are always solutions. Just come in, chat with them. Just because you may be short doesn’t mean we can’t work together and figure something out. The last half of this growing season will be a lot better for us. Corn is looking pretty good all the way around I would say. We have had better years, don’t get me wrong. Pollination is coming up in the next two to three weeks, and if we can catch some rains and milder heat so it is not as stressed and get a good ear pollinated, I think corn has a pretty good chance. Beans, who knows. They look tough. They are not covering the rows. They will probably make 90 bushels for as much as we know with yield estimates on them.”
