Evelyn Peterson Johnson, 83, passed away on Saturday, July 22, 2023, 8:57 AM at the Knox County Nursing Home, Knoxville.

Evelyn was born on April 15, 1940 in Galesburg and lived her life in Knoxville. She married Terry Johnson on January 12, 1962. Evelyn is survived by her nieces Cynthia Neff (Doug) Williams of Oneida, Illinois and Sharon Neff of Oviedo, Florida, Susan (Tom) LaFollette of Galesburg and nephew, Daniel Peterson, grandnieces and nephew Jason (Becca) Petentler, Brittany (Jeff) Simmons, Kristen Williams, great-grandniece and nephews, Nataleigh and Mason Petentler and Silas Simmons, sisters-in-law, Donna Peterson and Mary “Kay” Peterson and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Terry, her brothers, Kenneth (Bud, Peter) Peterson, Robert (Bob) Peterson, her sister, Marjorie Neff, parents Kenneth and Hazel Peterson and special friend, Ray Armstrong. Evelyn was the daughter of Kenneth and Hazel (Fox) Peterson. She was married to Terry for 27 years until he passed away. Evelyn was a 1958 graduate of Knoxville High School. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, Knoxville. She enjoyed visiting many states on family trips, going to antique car shows, being in her yard in the sunshine and feeding the birds. She was an avid walker and loved all animals especially her dogs King, Misty, Casey and Charlie. After taking her dogs on long walks she would drive them up to Hardee’s with her country music playing to get a Frisco burger to share with them. Her strength, independent nature, sense of humor and youthful outlook on life lives on in her nieces and nephews. Thank you to Knox County Nursing Home and OSF Hospice.

Cremation rites have been accorded. A graveside service will be 10:00 AM, Friday, July 28, 2023 at the Knoxville Cemetery. Rev. XXXXXX will officiate. Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Homes and Crematory, Knoxville will be assisting the family with arrangements. Memorials may be donated to Knox County Humane Society, Grace Lutheran Church in Knoxville or to the family.
