Illinois State Police (ISP) Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) Zone 2 continues to investigate property crimes along Interstate 80 and is asking for the public’s help to provide any information that may help solve this case.

On Saturday, April 5, 2025, at approximately 1:45 a.m., ISP Troop 2 troopers located a large amount of roofing nails scattered in the emergency crossovers on Interstate 80 between Geneseo and Atkinson. After the initial discovery, troopers began checking subsequent crossovers and located nails scattered throughout many of them. After further investigation, it was determined some of the nails were contained in plastic Easter eggs and deposited in the crossovers. ISP troopers continue to check the crossovers on Interstate 80 from the Iowa border to ISP Troop 3, along with other interstates.

If anyone has any information about this incident, including witnessing or hearing about the crime, or anything else they believe can help our investigators, we ask they contact ISP DCI Zone 2 Special Agent Nicholas Rubino at 309-752-4915 ext. 4931.
