Monmouth City Council Seeking Residents Input on Allowing Urban Hens in City Limits

Share

At the recent Monmouth City Council meeting, City Administrator Lew Steinbrecher reported a draft ordinance pertaining to allowing urban hens in the city limits. The ordinance limits six hens to a single-family residence while also requiring an annual $25 license. Steinbrecher breaks down the main ordinance points as the Council is also seeking input from local residents:

Monmouth City Council voted to refer the ordinance back to the agenda for a first reading at their August meeting. Mayor Rod Davies is encouraging residents to voice their views on urban hens to their alderperson:

“I would encourage residents to contact their alderman if they have concerns about the livestock and the associated potential of odors and predators associated with that, raccoons, possums, and those types of things. If there are concerns about that, I do encourage them to express those concerns to their alderman. That is my chief concern. Responsible owners, this probably won’t be an issue.”

The complete ordinance can be viewed below.
