The swine show wrapped up Wednesday morning with the selection of the champions of the gilt and barrow show at the Henderson County Fair.
In the gilt show, Rachel Leary took home the Grand Champion gilt title in both the 4-H and Junior shows and will be representing Henderson County in the Western Illinois Throwdown on August 5th.
“A lot of the shows that we’ve been to are ones that we’ve been to before, so we know what we’re aiming for feed-wise, goal-wise, and exercise-wise,” said Leary. “So a lot of the work we’ve put in has been to win all these shows, and all this hard work has finally paid off right here.”
Jolie Johnson took home the Reserve Grand Champion Gilt title.
In the barrow show, Keaton Ruebush took home the Grand Champion barrow title in both the 4-H and Junior show. Ruebush will be representing Henderson County in the Western Illinois Throwdown this August.
“Keep working with the pigs, growing them, walking them,” said Ruebush.
Rachel Leary took home the Reserve Grand Champion Barrow title.
The judge of this year’s swine show was Nash Stoller from Gridley, Illinois where his family owns and operates Stoller Livestock, raising pigs and goats.
“I have a list in my head of things that pigs need to do correctly. And that’s it they need to be built right, and then obviously muscle I mean it’s that’s textbook you have to have muscle because in the real world that’s what we eat right,” said Stoller. Then you get to add the extras of look, balance, shape, and cool pieces. And so the champions, just combined those necessities the best while still adding some of the extras without sacrificing the necessities you need.”
