Whether you are camping, hiking, gardening, or even just spending time outside in your own backyard, be mindful of ticks this time of the year and be sure to check your clothing, body, and even your pets once coming indoors. Family Physician at Solvera Health, Dr. Serafino Sauro says if you are feeling ill in the summer or fall, that could be an indicator you have been bitten by a tick and if left untreated, Lyme Disease could set in:
“When you do spend time outside, just do a thorough look over of your body, including the backside of your body, having someone look at your back, your upper thighs, your calves because when you look at statistics, it comes down to about 20 to 25 percent of people identify a tick and a rash. That means we are left with over 70 percent of the people are not even aware they had a tick or a rash. We are looking at patients that have brain fog, anxiety that is not really well controlled, they can’t sleep well, they feel palpitations to their heart, so their heart rate they are able to feel it. Your ribs might be sore. Your bladder might be irritated. Your stomach might be upset. You may have multiple joints that are discomforting, which more typical is the joint pain, lower back, hips, and then the movement of the joints that can go from the knees to your shoulder the next day. Then chronic fatigue is the main one there.”
Once Lyme Disease has been identified either clinically or by blood work, Dr. Sauro informs antibiotics, herbals, and supplements are used for treatment.
