Carl W. Young Sr., 72, of Dahinda, joined his wife and other family in Heaven at 4:48 a.m. Wednesday, August 9, 2023, in OSF St. Mary Medical Center.

He was born November 26, 1950, in Beardstown, the son of Meredith W. and Gloria D. (Birdsell) Young. He married the love of his life, Sharon J. Kell on July 3, 1970, in Galesburg. She preceded him in death on July 15, 2016.

He is survived by his children, Carl W. (Jill) Young Jr. and Sarah J. (Andy) Blake, both of Galesburg; six grandchildren, Brittany, Courtney, and Samantha Young, Connor Kilpatrick, and Holly and Gracie Blake; two great-grandchildren, Keira Caves and Henry Ervin; two sisters, Sandra (Bill) Daniel of Roseville and Donna (Vic) Baity of Monmouth; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Ernie.

He was a 1969 graduate of Galesburg High School. Carl had been a carpenter and a member of the Carpenter’s Union since 1970. He worked for Peoria Kitchen Top for 40 years and then for Benchmark before retiring in 2012. He enjoyed classic cars, fishing, hunting, hiking, and mushrooming. Carl’s greatest pride and joy was his grandkids. He always enjoyed spending time with them or attending any of their activities.

Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, August 22, 2023, at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Galesburg Chapel. Funeral service will follow at 7 p.m. Cremation will be accorded. Memorial contributions may be made to the family to establish a memorial fund.
