Mr. James “Jim” C. Gibson, 80, of Galesburg passed away at 12:50 pm Friday, August 18, 2023, at OSF St. Mary Medical Center.

Jim was born April 13, 1943, in Galesburg, the son of James S. and Geneva (Cooper) Gibson. He married Alberta Cleavinger on January 20, 1986, in Galesburg.

He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Alberta; three brothers, Jan (Joyce) Gibson of Calhoun, Georgia, Jerry (Deb) Gibson of Dahinda, Illinois and Jay (Janelle) Gibson of Orion, Illinois; his “adopted” family, Becky Fowler and James Fowler and several cousins, nieces, and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents and one brother, John Gibson.

Jim attended Cambridge High School and had lived in Wataga before moving to Galesburg in 1986. He worked for the former Admiral/Maytag Corporation for 30 years, retiring in 1998. He was a member of the Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints Church. Jim always looked forward to meeting his friends on Tuesday’s at Lieber’s Boxcar Express to play cards. Jim was an avid Chicago Cub fan and collected angels.

Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 am Wednesday, August 23, 2023, at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Galesburg Chapel. Visitation will be from 10:00-11:00 am Wednesday, at the chapel. The burial will be in East Linwood Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the family. Online condolences may be made at ww.h-p-w.com.
