Open since March of 2022, the Recharge Teen Center offers a safe space for local teens. While a variety of activities such as homework help, gardening, cooking, and arts and crafts are offered to the teens, Coordinator Amy Rogers shares one area they focus on is communication with others:
“One of the things we focus the most on when we are looking at trying to help kids get jobs or maybe give a speech in their class at the high school, is just how do we communicate with people using our words and not just texts. Those are one of the things that they definitely benefit from at Recharge because they are on their phones, there are times where the kids are just hanging out and on their phones, on apps, or they are gaming, but there is also so much time where we are just interacting. I would say interacting with their community and when it comes to getting a job or volunteering or pursuing whatever they are going to do after high school, those life skills and getting them into those situations are things that they are definitely getting at Recharge.”
Now that school is back in session, the Recharge Teen Center will be open 2 pm to 6 pm Mondays through Fridays until Labor Day and then 3 pm to 6 pm for the remainder of the year.
