Monmouth City Council Approves Request to Vacate Alleyway at North 9 1/2 and 10th Streets

At the recent Monmouth City Council meeting, a request to vacate the north-south alley in the 700 block of North 9 ½ and North 10th Streets was requested by the surrounding homeowners, shares Communications Director Ken Helms:

“In the event that the property owners want to take over some different things, they can request a vacation of the alleyway. They do a petition and get all the neighbors to sign off on it and then if all the neighbors want to vacate the alley, the city turns it over to them. I should note, when alleys are vacated, the city does still maintain an easement there because there are a lot of utilities that run through the alleys, so we still have the right to dig it up, you just don’t want to build a garage over it.”

The request to vacate the north-south alleyway was approved by Monmouth City Council.
