Shelley G. Winkler, 65, of Galesburg, died at 3:31 p.m. Monday, July 31, 2023, in OSF St. Mary Medical Center.
She was born May 14, 1958, in Knoxville, the daughter of Levi C. and Merle B. (West) Nelson. She married Richard L. Winkler on August 21, 1987, in Memphis, Missouri.
She is survived by her husband of nearly 36 years, Richard; a son, Ricki (Ellen) Winkler of Galesburg; five grandchildren, Corissa, Valkyrie, Cannon, Valencia, and Chevelle; two sisters, Alfreda (Jerry) Bowan and Patricia (Chris) Lavely, both of Galesburg; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Marsha Arnold and Polly Guerin; a niece, Dana Guerin; and a nephew, Christopher Kaden.
Shelley graduated from Knoxville High School in 1976. She was a homemaker and mother, caring for her family. She worked as a maid for a time in the former Economy Inn.
Shelley enjoyed classic cars, riding motorcycles, travelling, and most recently, boating. She also loved going to garage sales and thrift stores, always seeking a new knick knack. Shelley preferred to be at home, spending time with her family and cats, or working crossword puzzles and watching gameshows. Her absolute favorite was Sunday family dinners.
Visitation will be 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, August 4, 2023, at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services of Galesburg. Private family graveside service will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorial contributions left in her name may be made to the animal rescue/shelter of the donor’s choice.
