The Monmouth Police Department is testing applicants on Saturday, October 14th, beginning with an orientation, the physical agility POWER test, followed by a written exam, explains Police Chief Joe Switzer:
“As far as qualifications go, a high school diploma, valid Illinois driver’s license, and obviously you don’t want anything in your background that is going to prohibit you from becoming a police officer. The written test is more of a general knowledge test that measures your reading comprehension, your memory, and your ability to solve; it will give you a scenario and then it will ask you to solve that. It is a multiple choice test and consists of several hundred questions. The POWER test consists of a mile and a half run, bench press, sit ups, and there is a portion called the sit and reach, where you sit on the floor with your knees flat on the ground, your legs straight out in front of you, and you have to reach so far past your toes.”
Applications can be found online at cityofmonmouth.com and must be returned to the Monmouth Police Department by October 6th.
