The Monmouth-Roseville varsity football team was back at Coach Dobry field on Friday night for a huge contest in the TRAC-West division. While homecoming festivities are being held during the weekend, the Titans welcomed in undefeated Morrison to Sunny Lane Field for a marquee matchup, but it would be Morrison who opened up with a hot start and did not look back, winning the game by a final score of 41-12.

After Morrison won the coin toss and deferred to the second half, M-R received the ball first. After an early first down from the Titans offense, Monmouth-Roseville would be forced to punt to end their first drive. Morrison’s ensuing drive on offense would take them right down the field inside the Titans 5, where the Mustangs would score on a goal line touchdown run from Brady Anderson to take the early 6-0 lead (missed 2pt try). Monmouth-Roseville’s last drive of the quarter would result in a quick three and out, and the 1st period of play would end as the Mustangs were driving inside Titans territory.

To begin the second quarter, Morrison would continue their drive inside Monmouth-Roseville territory. After a big 4th down conversion from the Mustangs, Morrison would punch in their second score on the back of a 10 yard run from Chase Newman to bring the score to 14-0 (successful 2 pt conversion). Monmouth-Roseville’s next drive would again end in a punt with 6 minutes to go in the half, before Brady Anderson took his second score in from 25 yards out for Morrison to balloon their lead up to 21-0. The final drive of the first half would take Monmouth-Roseville inside Mustangs territory, but the drive would stall at the 30 yard line, sending the game to the half with Morrison leading 21-0.

Morrison opened up the second half with the ball  after deferring the opening coin toss. The Mustangs quickly added on to their lead with a 37 yard touchdown from Brady Anderson, his third score of the game. The Titans next drive would stall out inside the Morrison 40, and the Mustangs scored on the very next play on a long 61 yard touchdown from senior Carson Straighting (PAT no good, Morrison lead 34-0). The third quarter would conclude with Monmouth-Roseville driving inside Mustang territory.

In the final quarter of play, the Titans continuing offensive drive would end in a turnover off a fumble, while Morrison would once again score on a touchdown run from Rylan Alvarado to bring their lead to 41-0 and force a running clock for the rest of the 4th quarter. As the clock wound down in the 4th, the Titans would get on board with a goal line touchdown run from senior Tyler Finnicum. A Morrison fumble would put the Titans in great field position, and another touchdown from Finnicum would bring the game to its final score of 41-12.

In the stat book for the Titans, Andy Myers completed both of his attempts for 23 yards to Payton Thompson who hauled in both of those grabs. Rushing wise for Monmouth-Roseville, Tyler Finnicum led with 67 yards and two scores, while junior Payton Thompson added 49 yards, and sophomore Andrew Way added 48 yards on 9 carries. Monmouth-Roseville’s next contest will be a Saturday afternoon contest next week against Rockridge at 1:00 PM.
