Richard Lyle Hart, 69, of Galesburg, Illinois, died Sunday, September 24, 2023 at home.

Rick was born September 4, 1954 in Canton, Illinois the son of Richard Vern and Shirley Jean (Cramblet) Hart. After graduating high school Rick enlisted in the US Army on September 23, 1972 and was honorably discharged on September 18, 1975. He later married Linda Marie Perkins on August 25, 1979 in Galesburg.

Rick is survived by his wife of 44 years, Linda of Galesburg; their son, Lyle J. Hart of Galesburg; and three brothers, Robert Hart of Canton, Troy of Rushville, Illinois, and Terry Hart of Springfield, Illinois. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Rick worked at Abingdon Pottery for 23 years. He went on to work for Burlington Northern Sante Fe as a bridge tender in Burlington, Iowa for 18 years, retiring in August of 2022. Rick was a hardworking and honest man and was not afraid to say it as it is. In his younger years Rick enjoyed target shooting and coon hunting. He enjoyed being at his country home mowing the yard or simply sitting under the shade tree watching the go world go by. He often loved enjoying the countryside going for afternoon rides down the many back roads.

Private family services will be held with military rites conducted by the Knox County Honor Guard. No public services are planned. Cremation will be accorded. Arrangements have been entrusted to Watson Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory, Galesburg. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor’s choosing.
