Robinson, Thornton Earn MWC Weekly Honors

Monmouth College junior Savannah Robinson (Delavan, Illinois) and senior Nate Thornton (Peoria, Illinois) both claimed Midwest Conference honors this week. Robinson named the Midwest Conference Volleyball Defensive Performer of the Week on Wednesday and Thornton earned MWC Football Offensive Performer of the Week on Tuesday.

Robinson posted 93 digs over the weekend in Monmouth’s four matches and she is nationally ranked in both digs and digs per set. She had at least 20 digs in all four matches with a high of 26 against Bethany Lutheran on Friday. Her 24 digs in just three sets against Crown on Saturday helped the Scots to a 3-0 win. Robinson ranks fourth nationally among all D3 players with 93 digs and she is also ranked in the top 20 in digs per set at 6.20.

In addition to her 93 digs,Robinson had five aces, eight assists and one kill. The Scots will play this weekend at the North Central Invite in Naperville. They play Nebraska Wesleyan and Greenville on Friday and hosts North Central on Saturday.

Thornton Had a Big Weekend for Football

With a career-high 10 receptions for a career-high 212 yards, Thornton was named the Midwest Conference Offensive Performer of the Week on Tuesday and was also selected to the D3football.com Team of the Week . Thornton’s 212 receiving yards rank second among all D3 players in Week 1 and that tally is the fifth-best in a game in Monmouth history. Thornton also scored a touchdown in the game and he became the second player in school history with two 200+ yard receiving games.

The Scots are next in action at home on Saturday with a 1 p.m. kickoff against the University of Chicago in the MWC opener.
