William Arthur Damewood, 85, of rural Monmouth passed away at 10:13 am on Wednesday, September 6, 2023 in Oquawka, IL.

He was born March 23, 1938 in Monmouth, IL the son of James and Lucille (Ketchum) Damewood.  He was raised and educated around Monmouth graduating from Little York High School in 1956.

Bill served with the U.S. Air Force from 1958-1962.

He married Jean Foster in Goffstown, NH on June 20, 1964.

Bill worked for Gambles-Skogmo in Monmouth for 19 years.  He then worked as the grain elevator manager for the Twomey Co. for 27 years, retiring in 1993. 

He was a member of the Faith Bible Church in Oquawka and a life member of D.A.V.

He enjoyed hand engraving leatherwork and wood work.  He also enjoyed cross-stitching, fishing and playing golf.

Survivors include his daughter Sharon Sue Damewood of Muse, FL and son, William James Damewood of Ft. Myers, FL; 2 sisters, Mary Johnson of Monmouth and Doris (Ernie) Grabowski of Fisher, IL; several cousins, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, James Damewood.

Cremation has been accorded.  Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, September 16, 2023 at the Faith Bible Church, Oquawka, IL.  In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to the Faith Bible Church and sent to the funeral home.
