Here’s the WMOI/WRAM Athletes of the Week for the week ending Sept. 24, 2023:
The Monmouth-Roseville Titan Athlete of the Week is senior boys golfer, Bryson Hall. Bryson has posted low scores all season and carded another low number at the TRAC Championship Meet at Mendota Golf Club. His score of 83 was good enough to put himself in 9th place overall. That gave Bryson a spot on the TRAC All-Conference team.
The United Red Storm Athlete of the Week is senior boys golfer, Carson Horner. Carson has consistently been one of the four scorers for the boys all season long but he saved maybe his best round for the LTC Championship Railsplitter Championship Meet at Midland Golf Club. He put up a very solid 5-over par 77. That score gave Carson a 2nd place finish overall and a spot on the LTC All-Conference team.
The West Central Heat Athlete of the Week is senior football player, Isiah Stephson. What a night for Isiah in a dominating win over Galva. He rushed for 159 yards on 13 carries. Three of those 13 carries ended up in the endzone, as each of Isiah’s touchdown runs were over 45 yards. Two of the runs were over 60.
The Galesburg Silver Streak Athlete of the Week is junior girls golfer, Cora Johnson. Cora claimed the Western Big Six individual championship at Highland Spring Golf Course in Rock Island. She carded a score of 89 to win the tournament by one shot. That score put Cora on the All-Conference list for the 3rd time in three tries, after finishing 6th in 2021 and 10th in 2022.
The Abingdon-Avon Tornado Athlete of the Week is junior soccer player, Augie Courson. Augie was a big part of three Tornado wins last week. He was the goal keeper for each of those victories, only giving up one total goal in the three matches. Augie faced 10 shots for the week and turned 9 of those shots away.
