Dale LaVerne Ehlen, 90, of Monmouth, Illinois, died peacefully on October 5, 2023, at 10:37 p.m. in Peoria, Illinois. Born on September 25, 1933, in Canton, Illinois, the son of Herman John and Ellen Marie (Walker) Ehlen. Dale lived a life characterized by kindness, friendliness, and an unwavering love for his family and friends.

Dale was a devoted family man, cherishing his late wife, Joyce Patricia Souckey, and his beloved daughter, Cindy Ehlen, of Monmouth, Illinois. He was predeceased by his son, Mark Ehlen, in 1994, and his two brothers, William and Robert. Dale’s love for his family was evident in his actions and words, and he was a source of strength and comfort to them throughout his life.

Dale served in the United States Navy from May 25, 1951 until he was honorably discharged on July 9, 1954. During his enlistment, Dale served 2 ½ years overseas in Korea. Dale’s professional life was marked by dedication and hard work. He spent over 25 years at Gates Rubber Company. He was transferred to Denver, Colorado in 1978 and retired as Transportation Manager.

Dale had a zest for life that was infectious. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed the camaraderie and challenge of the game. He loved going out to eat and sharing meals with friends and family. Dale was always there for his children, providing guidance, support, and unconditional love. He had a heart for helping others and often went out of his way to lend a hand to those in need. A faithful catholic, he was a longtime member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church and assisted in the construction of the church.

Dale had a special place in his heart for his pets, who brought him immense joy and companionship. His love for animals was a testament to his kind and gentle nature. His favorite place to visit was San Diego, California, where he enjoyed the beautiful weather and relaxed atmosphere.

Dale will be remembered as a loving and kind individual who made a positive impact on everyone he met. His friendly demeanor and warm smile were a beacon of light for those that were fortunate enough to know him. His love for life, family, and friends was evident in everything he did.

Cremation will be accorded. No services are planned. Arrangements have been entrusted to Watson Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory, Galesburg, Illinois. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association. Online expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.watsonthomas.com.
