In 2019, Governor JB Pritzker signed a bill into law raising the minimum salary for a teacher in Illinois to $40,000 by the 2023-2024 academic year. In the years following, based on the signed legislation, the minimum salary for a teacher will rise based on the Consumer Price Index, subject to review by the Illinois General Assembly. Monmouth-Roseville Superintendent Ed Fletcher shares the new minimum teacher salary in the state of Illinois:
“This was the first year where we received what that new number was going to be. For the minimum salary rate for the 2024-2025, school districts have to meet is $41,188. For us, we have a Collective Bargaining Agreement, we meet that salary. We are actually above that amount for 2024-2025. It is going to be a different way of doing things now that there is this law, basically saying you have to have a minimum number for a school district, you can go over that minimum number, but you certainly have to have a minimum salary, which is very new for school districts.”
