Having a balanced diet is very important for children as nutrition ensures student health, well-being, and focus throughout the day. With the start of another school year here, Monmouth-Roseville Superintendent Ed Fletcher reminds parents of the free breakfasts and lunches offered for students and the opportunity to brings snacks:
“We are part of the program through the state of Illinois, we offer free breakfast and lunch to kids in kindergarten through twelfth. We then track the lunches and send documentation to the state of Illinois and we get reimbursed for that. It is a very good program for the kids. One thing to note, we do tell parents that as kids grow, their food needs might be greater than others. If there are families and their kids are still hungry after eating, they can still bring some snacks. Make sure you communicate with the building administrator because we do have peanut free schools, there are food allergies and such, but please communicate with your child’s teacher. There are things we can do to make sure the kids get plenty of food during the day.”
Before the Monmouth-Roseville students head back to the classroom next week, a new teacher orientation is taking place Thursday, August 14th.
