The West Central Heat football team is off to a strong start, opening the 2026 season at 2-0.
West Central is coming off a 48-20 win over Blue Ridge/DeLand-Weldon. Graham Kelly got the scoring started with a four-yard touchdown run to give the Heat an 8-0 lead.
Blue Ridge answered with a 55-yard touchdown run to make it 8-6, but from there West Central took over. The Heat scored the next 40 points to build a 48-6 lead late in the third quarter before going on to pick up the 48-20 win.
The Heat also picked up another win off the field last week, earning $5,000 through T-Mobile’s Friday Night 5G Lights competition.
Head Coach Jason Kirby shares how the community helped make it happen.
“Just showing support for your football program and sending action pictures in from Friday night and getting as many people to send as many pictures in as we can to show our support for our program. In doing that, we were awarded $5,000 from T-Mobile this past week. They’ll be here on homecoming to present us with that check.”
West Central isn’t done yet. Fans can continue helping the Heat by posting photos and videos showing their school spirit, tagging West Central and T-Mobile, and using #FN5GL and #Entry. The contest includes a grand prize of a $1 million home field upgrade.
The Heat will be back at home Friday night against the Galva Wildcats, who enter the matchup at 1-1.
