Through the ReConnect and R-DOF grants, MTC Communications continues to expand their fiber network services into rural areas across West Central Illinois. Marketing Director Rachel Kerns shares the recent builds which have been completed, bringing a reliable service to under-served locations:
“Our R-DOF build, and that is one of the grants that we have received to build fiber and expand our fiber network into some of the very rural areas of our service territories. Fiber is very extremely expensive to build, so we try to build as many places as we can, but there are some extremely rural areas that we cannot make a business case for and this grant has allowed us to connect some of those very rural areas and people that need fast internet, just like everybody else, now we can finally build it for them. The R-DOF Grant has allowed us to build inside of Gladstone and then all the way out to the river and the surround rural areas, then as far south as Gladstone. We also are expanding north, so we get into rural Oquawka. We did build out Oquawka in town with our fiber a couple of years ago, but this R-DOF Grant gets us even farther into the rural areas, so along the highway and going south towards the Gladstone and Gulfport area. Very excited to be able to connect those extremely rural locations.”
Kerns also reports the Little Swan Lake build has expanded to cover more territory toward Avon, with fiber expected to be in the ground in the spring of 2024. To see if your address is available to receive MTC Communication’s fiber network, visit mtcfiber.net.
