Randall E. Kehr, 76, of Alexis, IL, passed away at 4:14 am, Wednesday, October 4, 2023 at his home surrounded by his family.
Randy was born on February 20, 1947 in Monmouth, IL, the son of Ernest M. and Edith L. (Welsh) Kehr. He was raised and educated in Alexis, graduating from Alexis High School in 1965. He later graduated with a degree in Education from Western Illinois University in 1971.
Randy married Cathryn E. Peterson on June 7, 1975 in North Henderson, IL and she survives.
Randy’s greatest joy was the time spent with his family, grandchildren and close friends. One of his greatest accomplishments was carrying on the family farm at age 65.
Randy worked in construction for a couple of years, Admiral Corporation in Galesburg and the Yorkwood School District. Randy was an Insurance Broker for the Rose Reynolds Agency, Fred Jenks Insurance and currently with LMP Agency all in Monmouth. He enjoyed fast-pitch softball, pottery, looking for arrowheads and playing pitch. He also enjoyed watching women’s college softball and was an avid University of Illinois fan. He was an active member of the Norwood Presbyterian Church, Alexis Men’s Club, Alexis Lions Club, Hawthorne Ridge Thursday Night Golf League and a member of Gibson Woods. He was also an Alexis Museum Life Member.
Randy is survived by his wife Cathy Kehr of Alexis; his children, Andrew (Crystal) Kehr of Alexis, and Rachel (Joe) Secrist of Galesburg, IL; five grandchildren, Laney, Madelyn, Conrad, Aella, and Rek; one sister, Melodee Alstedt of Coal Valley, IL; brother-in-law, Doug (Darla) Peterson of Woodhull, IL; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Rodney W. Kehr; brothers-in-law, Jerry Alstedt and Steve Peterson; sister-in-law, LeeAnne McDowell and two nephews, Justin Peterson and Christopher Alstedt.
A gathering of family and friends will be from 2:00-6:00 pm, Saturday, October 14, 2023 at the Western Illinois Fieldhouse, Alexis, IL. If you wish, we would like you to wear blue or your favorite team shirt. Cremation rites have been accorded. Memorials may be made to Norwood Presbyterian Church, Alexis/North Henderson Young Men’s Club, or the Alexis Fire Department and sent to the funeral home.
