EIU Concludes Men’s Swim Team Violated Hazing Policy

Share

Eastern Illinois University is concluding that the men’s swim team violated EIU’s hazing policy.  The university launched an investigation in September following credible reports of hazing.  The initial report was made by Coach Jonathan Jordan.  The team was suspended pending the results of the probe, which determined that first-year student-athletes were compelled to participate in “traditions” that included creating PowerPoint presentations on topics that were inappropriate, harmful, and distasteful.  Also, the team promoted excessive and underage alcohol consumption.  EIU’s Men’s Swimming will resume immediately with ongoing oversight.  The team will participate in anti-hazing and alcohol abuse workshops before competition resumes in January.
