The Jamieson Community Center Food Pantry is seeing an 82 percent increase in numbers compared to this time last year as over 400 people a month are utilizing the service. Executive Director Nancy Mowen is grateful for the support from the community and shares which food staples are in the greatest need:
“It has been challenging to keep food on the shelves. Prices have gone up and our prices have also increased, so some of the food we purchase and then we are so grateful for our community. Think about the things that you eat at your home, the staples that you use to prepare your meals. We try to keep things like rice, pasta, we are fortunate that we get some bread donated by Fareway, some from County Market, and then cereal, and pancake mix is great for families. We try to keep a variety of vegetables, canned fruits, canned proteins like tuna or chicken, and jars of peanut butter.”
The 23rd Annual WMOI/WRAM Freezing for Food event at Save A Lot Food Store in Monmouth, benefiting the Jamieson Community Center and the Roseville Helping Hands Food Pantry will be held 10 am to 2 pm Wednesday, November 29th, Thursday the 30th, and Friday, December 1st.
