The US Department of Agriculture is providing grants for farmers in northwest Illinois to rollout renewable energy. Ten farmers will receive over 500-thousand in grants from the Rural Energy for America Program for solar arrays that will save them over 60-thousand a year in energy costs. The program will also provide 25-million in loan guarantees for a solar farm near Monmouth. Combined the arrays will produce enough energy to power over 7,200 homes.
