Illinois State Police Investigating In-Custody Death in McDonough County

On November 8, 2023, at approximately 1:50 a.m. the McDonough County Sheriff’s Office requested the Illinois State Police Zone 4 to investigate of an in-custody death. Initial reports indicate one male inmate died because of injuries sustained during an altercation with another male inmate. The injured inmate was taken to McDonough District Hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

The McDonough County Coroner’s Office, McDonough County States Attorneys Office, and the Illinois State Police Zone 4 are investigating, and all further media inquiries should be directed to the Illinois State Police PIO in Springfield.
