Underground infrastructure repairs in the Downtown Revitalization project for the City of Monmouth is expected to begin in February with the road resurfacing and beautification to follow. Mayor Rod Davies explains construction will occur in one quadrant at a time:
“We are going to do it one quadrant at a time so that we don’t have the entire downtown torn up. We are going to have the underground done, we hope to start that this winter, sometime in February and be done so that when they begin construction sometime in March, we will get that moving along. They will kind of follow up after each other. I think some of the old coal chutes and voids in front of some of the old buildings, I think there is still some steel plates along City Hall where there used to be coal delivery and material delivery chutes. Those will be addressed and the handicap accessibility from the outside into the buildings those are items that will also be addressed during this project.”
Parking will also be addressed during the revitalization with adding more and inquiring diagonal instead of parallel parking spaces.
