Holiday Stress Isn’t Just for Humans

Share

While the holiday season is a time of celebrating and getting together with friends and family, it can create disruptions for your pets; whether it is added noise and house guests, to decorations or the increase of table scraps being offered, a pet can become overwhelmed. Lundeen Small Animal Hospital Dr. Rebecca Lundeen recommends which foods to keep away from your pets:

“This time of the year we see pets that might be getting into things that they shouldn’t or getting treated with special things more than they usually would. We see an upset stomach, vomiting, digestive upset, that sort of thing, we see a fair amount this time of year. It is important to keep them away from really greasy or rich foods or things that they are not typically accustomed to having and also just make sure they are not getting into decorations or ingesting other foreign things around the house that they shouldn’t be.”

As for lessening stressors, Dr. Lundeen suggests creating a quiet space in the home for your pet to go to or if they are experiencing high anxiety, reaching out to your veterinarian to see what is available to help with that stress.
