Michael D. Norris, 62, of Galesburg, died on December 8, 2023, in Galesburg, Illinois. Born on September 6, 1961, in Clearwater, Florida, to Clyde D. and Joyce E. (Rigs) Norris, he was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who left an indelible mark on the hearts of all who knew him.

Professionally, Mike dedicated 15 years to mastering the intricacies of small engine repair, later mowing for the Galesburg Parks Department, where his meticulous work kept the local parks pristine for many years. Mike married Anita M. Carothers at their home in Galesburg on September 6, 1991.

Mike’s passions painted the picture of a life rich in relationships and hobbies. His granddaughters Felicity, Kaylee, and Serenity were the lights of his life, and he cherished every moment spent guiding and nurturing them. A true outdoorsman, Mike found tranquility catfishing at the Mississippi River. His love for motorsports was evident; whether cheering on his favorite NASCAR driver, Rusty Wallace, or go-kart racing with his beloved son, John Norris-Carothers, Mike’s enthusiasm was contagious.

He also found joy watching football—cheering on the Denver Broncos—and in recent years, took to the excitement of RC car racing. His friends from the “Eastenders” group and fellow raccoon hunters will remember the laughter and camaraderie that defined their time together.

Preceded in death by his parents, Clyde and Joyce, and his sister Vera Macky, Mike’s legacy is carried on by his wife Anita, his son John Norris-Carothers, brother Clyde Norris, Jr., and granddaughters all of Galesburg.

Memorial visitation will be 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Saturday, December 16, 2023 at Watson Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory, Galesburg. No funeral services are planned. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Online expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.watsonthomas.com.
