Nancy C. Wheeler, age 82, of Monmouth, Illinois, passed away at 9:05 PM on Monday, December 4, 2023 at Monmouth Nursing Home, Monmouth, Illinois. She was born December 3, 1941 in Monmouth, Illinois, the daughter of Irvine Eugene and Gladys (Thomas) Sage. Nancy was reared and educated in the area, graduating from Monmouth High School with the Class of 1959. On June 27, 1959, she married James L. Wheeler in Monmouth and he preceded her in death on July 30, 2009.
Nancy began her employment as a seamstress at Formfit here in Monmouth. She was late employed for many years at Gale Products in Galesburg, Illinois, worked for a time at I.A.A.P. in Middletown, Iowa, and finished her career as a home health care giver for Warren Achievement Center, and provided care privately in the Monmouth area. Nancy enjoyed camping, boating on the river, attended tractor pulls, and traveling. She and James enjoyed traveling to Branson, Missouri each year. Nancy collected crystal birds and teapots. She was an avid fan of Wheel of Fortune. Mostly, she enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.
Surviving Nancy is one daughter, Pamela (Tim) Ledbetter of Moline, Illinois, three granddaughters; Jennifer (Mariusz Choroszy) McDonald of Champaign, IL, Rebecca Elliott of Galesburg, IL, and Melissa (Lucas) Isleman of Des Moines, IA, one grandson, Mitchell McDonald of Kirkwood, IL, one sister, Donna Becker, and one brother, Richard Sage. Also surviving are her great-grandchildren; Karlic Elliott, Liam Elliott, and Matthew Choroszy, and one great-great grandson, Izaiah. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, sisters; Diane Chewning, Sharon Bishop, Cindy Brant, and Linda Sage, brother, Alan Sage, and her nephew, Chris Bishop.
A funeral service for Nancy Wheeler is planned for 10:30 AM on Friday, December 8, 2023 at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth, Illinois. Visitation will be from 9:30-10:30 prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Warren County Memorial Park in Monmouth.
