Charles “Chuck” August Schacht

Charles “Chuck” August Schacht was born on March 31, 1946, to LeRoy and Laura (Woods) Schacht. He married Roberta Coons on August 10, 1968. They were happily married for 55 years and enjoyed many grand adventures together.

Chuck is survived by his sister, Laura Reid and his brother, Jeff Schacht both of Galesburg, Illinois.

Chuck and his wife attended Victory Christian Center and participated in a weekly Bible study that they enjoyed with fellow believers.

He graduated from Galesburg High school in 1964. He played baseball for Galesburg High School, the American Legion, Monmouth College, and Arizona State University. He achieved his bachelor’s from Monmouth College in Monmouth, Illinois and his master’s degree from Arizona State University.

Chuck taught for Lombard Jr High School in Galesburg and at the University of Chicago where he was head baseball coach and the assistant basketball coach. He worked for the ORU Dental School, and for Autopilots Central in Tulsa, Oklahoma for 20 years.

Chuck loved sailing, was an avid NASCAR fan having attended many championship races with his bride. He also enjoyed computer racing with fellow NASCAR enthusiasts in the off seasons. He was an amateur radio operator and had earned the extra class designation which was the highest class assigned to an amateur. His call sign was KJ5RE. Chuck also enjoyed riding his Harley trike and bowling.

He resided in Tulsa for the last 42 years. and graduated to his reward and became a Silent Key on November 18, 2023.

Funeral Services are scheduled for 10:00 am Friday, December 8, 2023, at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Galesburg Chapel with Chaplain Jordan Knight officiating. The burial will be in Avon Cemetery, Avon, Illinois. Online condolences may be offered at www.h-p-w.com
