Now is the Time to Prepare for Winter Driving

Share

December is here and the official start of the winter season is right around the corner, now is the time to get your vehicle prepared for winter driving so you are ready when the snow hits the ground. Warren County Sheriff Martin Edwards has these tips in preparing your vehicle:

“It is time to slow down, make sure that car is ready to go, it has been checked over by a mechanic, your antifreeze levels are up, tires are good, battery is strong. Keep a blanket in the car, maybe some food, definitely in the winter. If we get a bad storm and there is people off the road and stuck, it could be hours before you get help. Make sure that tank if full of gas, have a blanket, have a coat, just think winter.”

In the event of an emergency during winter weather, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration encourages staying with your vehicle, don’t overexert yourself, make sure your car can be seen by turning on hazard lights or interior lights, clear your exhaust pipe of snow to prevent carbon monoxide poisoning, and run your car sporadically to stay warm, you never know how long you may be stranded.
