Bonnie Kay Watters, 83, of Colona, Illinois, died on Thursday, January 11, 2024 at home surrounded by her family, after a brief but bravely fought battle.

She was born May 28, 1940 in Galesburg, the daughter of Jewel L. and A. Delene (Tomlinson) Cook. Bonnie was reared and educated in Galesburg, graduating from high school in 1958. She later received a certificate for attending beautician courses. Bonnie worked as a hairstylist at Visible Changes in Rock Island, Illinois for about twenty years before retiring in 2015. She married Duane Watters in Galesburg on September 18, 1976.

Left to cherish her memory is her husband of 47 years, Duane Watters of Colona; two sons, Robert (Rhonda Charping) Boughton of Washington, Iowa and Mark (Monique) Boughton of Peoria, Illinois; one daughter, Mary (Greg) Swanberg of Middletown, Ohio; one stepson, Roger (Tammy) Watters of Columbus, Indiana; thirteen grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Brian Boughton; one stepson, Ron Watters; and one sister, Cheryl Sparks.

Bonnie’s greatest joy was spending time with her family. She enjoyed watching old movies and going to the casino. Bonnie was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She will be dearly missed.

Visitation will be 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 24, 2024 at Watson Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory. Funeral service will follow at 12:00 p.m. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery in Galesburg. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
