Randy L. Turnquist, age 65, of Monmouth, Illinois; passed away at 2:52 pm on Friday January 26, 2024 at his Monmouth residence. Randolph Lee Turnquist was born on February 3, 1958 in Monmouth, Illinois and is the son of Robert D. and Betty J. (Isaacson) Turnquist. Randy was raised in rural Monmouth and attended and graduated from Warren High School. Randy married Missy Hueber on January 30, 2004 in Cancun, Mexico and she is surviving him. Randy first worked at Kroger Grocery Store in Monmouth and when it closed, worked at the store in Galesburg, Illinois from 1974 to 1986. He then was employed as a Correctional Officer at Henry Hill of Galesburg from 1986 to 2010 and his retirement. Randy’s hobbies include traveling with his wife, Missy, and playing golf at Gibson Woods Golf Course where he is life member, and in Biloxi, Mississippi. They also loved to go R. V. ing and spending time with his family and grandchildren. Randy also made a Hole-in-One on November 7, 1997 on hole eight at Gibson Woods. Randy is survived by his wife, Missy of Monmouth, Illinois, There are five sons surviving, Randall and Paige Turnquist of Alexis, Illinois, Brian and Johanna Turnquist of Monmouth, Illinois, Caleb and Corbin Newell of Quincy, Illinois, Matt and Sarah Donaldson of West Townsend, Vermont, and Jeremy and Amber Donaldson of Sartell, Minnesota. three daughters, Kate and Jeremy Boyce of Fountain, Colorado, Kelsie and Mat McCormick of Ft. Madison, Iowa, and Amanda Newell of Galesburg, Illinois. There are 19 grandchildren surviving and on great grandchild due in July. Randy’s sisters survive, Connie Davis of Monmouth, Illinois, and Penny Grafton and Andrew DeWeese in Havana, Illinois and three brothers, Mike and Val Turnquist of Emmittsburg, Missouri, Steve and Paula Turnquist of Cleveland, Texas, and Ron and Idalu Turnquist of Monmouth, Illinois. Many nieces and nephews are also surviving him. He is preceded in his death by his parents and one nephew, Nate Grafton.
A gathering and personal eulogies about Randy are planned on Wednesday January 31, 2024 beginning at 11:00 am at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth, Illinois to conclude before 2:00 pm. A fellowship following the celebration of his life is planned by his family. Memorial funds have been established for either St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or for Cancer Research.
