Sherry E. Stripe Glas, 73, of Galesburg, IL, crossed over early Monday morning at Seminary Manor on January 8, 2024, to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and join her family who preceded her in death: her father, Everett H. Stripe; mother, Margaret L. (Stripe) Anderson; older brother and his wife, Stan and Lynne Stripe; younger brother, Jerry Stripe, and nephew, Jeremy Stripe. Sherry’s steadfast love and support as a daughter, mother, wife, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend have touched many throughout her life.

After her birth on March 23, 1950, in Monmouth, IL, she enjoyed growing up on the family farm located 2 miles northwest of Little York, IL, Henderson County. Sherry was a Cedar Creek Presbyterian Church member and attended Little York Elementary School until January of 1961, when her family moved to Galesburg after her father’s death in September of 1960. She felt lucky to have five brothers to look after her. Sherry graduated from Galesburg High School in 1968. She loved spending her summers at Camp Shaubena, seven years as a camper and three years as a counselor.

Sherry married John Glas on September 6, 1969, at Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Galesburg, IL, and embraced the birth of her only son, Michael Glas, in 1975. She loved her family, many dogs, Thomas the cat, gardening, and having a home filled with her favorite flowers, such as the Hibiscus. Before moving to Tucson, AZ, in 1985 to be an administrative assistant in a property management company, Sherry worked at Dick Blick Art Supply and Eagle Food Supermarket in Galesburg. Twenty-six years later, in 2011, Sherry returned to Galesburg to care for her mother and remain close to family.

Sherry is survived by her only son, Michael Glas (Galesburg, IL); brothers: Harry [Teresa] Stripe (Flower Mound, TX), Moses Anderson (Alexis, IL), and Matthew [Darlene] Anderson (Galesburg, IL); sister-in-law Kathy [Jerry] Stripe (Zephyrhills, FL); cousin/soul sister: Sharon [John] Varner (Knoxville, IL); nephews: Dana [Nicole] Stripe (Henryville, IN), Jesse [Jamie] Stripe (Sioux Falls, SD), Benjamin [Jennifer] Stripe (Concord, CA), Cyrus [Heather] Anderson (Alexis, IL), Blake Anderson (Pekin, IL); nieces: Rana [Chad] Nall (Bella Vista, AR), Cindy [Matt] Galloway (New Port Richey, FL), Cierra [Steve] Urbanczyk (New Lenox, IL), Lindsey Anderson (Alexis, IL), Astonishing, Lyrical, Trinity Anderson (Galesburg, IL); and many more cherished cousins, great-nephews, and great-nieces.

Immediate family and close friends of Sherry will be invited to a private interment of her ashes next to her parents in Little York Cemetery, Little York, IL. In honor of Sherry’s memory, the family kindly requests cards, letters, or photos of Sherry to be sent to “Attn: Sherry Glas Remembrance,” 20 Imperial Dr, Galesburg, IL 61401. A public celebration of life visitation for Sherry will be held on her birthday, Saturday, March 23, from 1:00- 3:00 pm at the Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Home, 120 Public Sq., Knoxville, IL. Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Homes and Crematory will be assisting the family with arrangements. Online condolences may be shared with the family at www.hurd-hendricksfuneralhome.com
