Battalion Chief Farrell established command and the Central Station crew used an attack line (hose line) and forced entry through the front of the residence to extinguish the fire. The Fremont Street Station crew established water supply from a nearby hydrant and performed a search of the residence for any possible occupants. The Brooks Street station crew performed ventilation to improve interior smoke conditions. There were no occupants inside the residence at the time of the fire and no injuries were reported.

An emergency callback of off-duty fire personnel was initiated to provide emergency coverage for the City. Preliminary damage estimates are at $17,000.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation by Galesburg Fire Investigators in cooperation with the Office of the State Fire Marshal.
