\It has been a winter sports season full of success for Abingdon-Avon High School. The Tornadoes girls and boys bowlers kicked off the winter sports season back in November, with both teams having postseason success. The boys’ bowlers placed 6th as a team at regionals and sent Tyler Conderay on to bowl in the Rockford Jefferson sectional where he rolled a 902. The girls’ bowlers would advance on to sectionals as a team after a 3rd place finish in regionals, as well as sending an individual bowler to sectionals in Mary Ella Tucker. Ella Tucker rolled a 6-game score of 1062 and ended up 51 pins short of advancing to the state final series in Rockford. As for Tornado basketball, Abingdon-Avon has both the girls and the boys’ basketball teams still competing in postseason action. The A-Town boys, after a 2-6 start to the season, finished the regular season with an 18-13 record and are fresh off taking down Putnam County in the first round of regional play last night. Abingdon-Avon will now head to Williamsfield to play in the semifinals tomorrow against the Stark County Rebels. As for the 25-7 Tornado girls, they have a chance to compete for a sectional title if they can beat the Lewistown Lady Indians tonight at Bushnell/Prairie City High School. Abingdon-Avon secured a regional title last week after the girls beat Wethersfield 46-40 in the class 1A Princeville regional. Speaking on the WRAM Morning Show this morning, Abingdon-Avon High School Athletic Director Reid Kelso says the district is excited for postseason action to continue this week before A-Town hosts a boys sectional tournament next week.

If the Tornado girls can get the win over Lewistown tonight they will play in the sectional championship on Thursday night in Bushnell against the winner of Illini Bluffs and Annawan, while if the Tornado boys can beat Stark County tomorrow night they will play for a regional championship against the winner of Peoria Christian and ROWVA/Williamsfield. You can listen to all the action from tonight’s Abingdon-Avon vs Lewistown girls’ sectional semifinal game live on AM 1330/FM 95.7 WRAM and radiomonmouth.com. Tip-off is slated for 7:30 in Bushnell, so our Prairie Communications Sports Network pregame show coverage will hit the air at around 7:15.
