The Abingdon-Avon Lady Tornadoes basketball team will compete for a class 1A sectional championship at Bushnell/Prairie City High School on Thursday night. After taking down Lewistown 56-47 on Tuesday night in a hard fought semifinal battle, the (26-7) Tornadoes have set themselves up for a match up with the number one seed in the sub-sectional, the (29-4) Illini Bluffs Tigers. Bluffs took down Annawan 53-46 in the first semifinal on Tuesday. In their previous meeting from late December, A-Town beat IB 38-31 to claim a title at the Beardstown Holiday Tournament.

Speaking on the postgame show following their semifinal game vs Lewistown on Tuesday night, Head Coach Brent Dugan says the team plans on getting right back to work as they prepare for what a very strong Lady Tigers team will bring in the title tilt.

Since consolidation formed between the Abingdon and Avon school districts in 2013, this is the second appearance in a sectional championship game for the Tornadoes. A win tonight would give A-Town their first super-sectional appearance in school history.

Tonight’s sectional championship contest will tip-off from Bushnell Prairie City High School at 7:00, and we will have all the action live on AM 1330/FM 95.7 WRAM and online at our website radiomonmouth.com, pregame show coverage will hit the air at 6:45.
