The Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) has awarded the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting to the City of Galesburg for its annual comprehensive financial report for the fiscal year ended December 31, 2022. The report has been judged by an impartial panel to meet the high standards of the program, which includes demonstrating a constructive “spirit of full disclosure” to clearly communicate its financial story and motivate potential users to read the report.

“The Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting is granted to municipalities that exceed the basic requirements of generally accepted accounting principles and produce annual comprehensive financial reports that demonstrate transparency and full disclosure,” said Bobbi Chockley, Interim Director of Finance and Information Systems for the City of Galesburg. “I commend Denise Hensley, who coordinates the audit for the city, and all other city staff involved in the audit process for achieving this award for the 28th consecutive year. As reporting requirements continually change, their hard work is truly impressive.”

The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management.
