The Galesburg Fire Department responded to a structure fire at 1167 S. Pearl St., at 11:16 a.m. on Wednesday, February 14, 2024. The response included all three stations and the 11 personnel on duty. Upon arrival, fire crews encountered a heavy fire showing from the front of a detached garage. Battalion Chief Perry established command and the Brooks Street crew made an initial attack and extinguished the fire. No occupants or pets were found within the structure. Burn injuries were sustained by the owner while exiting the garage. GHAS assisted with patient care and transport.
Preliminary damages are estimated at approximately $40,000.00. The detached garage sustained heavy fire and smoke damage, two additional structures sustained exposure damage, and two vehicles and two motorcycles were also damaged in the blaze. Galesburg Fire Department Investigators have ruled the fire unintentional.
