Monmouth City Council has awarded the Downtown Underground Utility project to Lavidiere Construction, which is expected to begin soon with one quadrant at a time, shares Mayor Rod Davies:
“Our water mains there are over 100 years old. They are restricted in supply and so we are going to get that done and also we have some replacement and some lining to do there, plus we have some man holes to replace and when we get those all done, hopefully we will have the final design bidding done on the beautification project. Once we get the underground done we can follow right up and begin the above ground piece of it. We are going to try and tackle this one quadrant at a time to try and minimize disruptions. The first phase will be probably a little quicker than the restoration phase. I would expect that each quadrant will be not that long once they get rolling, but there will be disruptions to parking, but the work we are doing now should not impair or impede any of the entrances to the buildings. People will be able to walk around on the sidewalks and still be able to support and visit businesses in each of the quadrants.”
Additionally, year to date residential construction totals for 2024 are at $137,000 and $334,000 commercially in the City of Monmouth.
