Austin (AJ) Cox of Monmouth, IL has announced his candidacy as a Republican Candidate for Sheriff of Warren County for the 2026 election. Cox is currently working as a Police Officer at the Monmouth Police Department. “I have been in law enforcement for 14 years and I feel it is time for my next step in law enforcement,” Cox stated.
Cox was born and raised in Warren County where he graduated from Warren High School. In 2009, Cox began his law enforcement career as a Correctional Officer at the Warren County Sheriff’s Office. In 2013, Cox became a Deputy for the Warren County Sheriff’s Office where he took on new challenges. In 2019, Cox transferred to the Monmouth Police Department where he is currently a Police Officer. Through training and experience, Cox is continuously taking on challenges and continuing to learn how to be a leader.
For many years, Cox has served on multiple volunteer committees within Warren County. Cox also served on the Central Warren Fire District for seven years, with two years as a Captain. “As a young man my parents taught me to help others and to do what is right, no matter what. I have carried those morals with me my entire life. I always strive to help others and to be a good role model for our youth and others,” Cox stated.
The Sheriff plays a vital role in Warren County. The Sheriff is the one that has to be at the forefront of multiple situations involving law enforcement. “If elected as the next Warren County Sheriff, I will attempt to close the void between law enforcement and the public. I will take the proper steps to keep the citizens of Warren County safe, along with the employees of the Warren County Sheriff’s Office. I will also do what is right, even if it is not what the majority wants,” Cox Stated.
Cox resides in Monmouth with his wife Danielle and their two dogs Gunther and Gravel.
