Local 8th Grade Students Participate in ‘Welcome to the Real World’

The Regional Office of Education and Delabar CTE, Carl Sandburg College, and the University of Illinois Extension hosted the “Welcome to the Real World” and career exploration event at Carl Sandburg College.

8th-grade students from United, Monmouth-Roseville, Knoxville, Abingdon-Avon, Williamsfield, and Costa participated in a day of financial literacy and career learning.

Students had the opportunity to learn from local industry professionals during a career panel, make budgeting decisions based on a career path, and explore over ten industry partners during a career fair.

The “Welcome to the Real World” career simulation allows students to learn about managing money in an exciting and creative way. The day would not have been possible without the help of volunteers and the organizations who donated their time.
