Call Before You Dig

Share

April is National Safe Digging Month and Monmouth Fire Chief Casey Rexroat reminds homeowners to call before you dig for that outdoor project:

“If you are going to be digging anywhere on your property, give 811 a call. That is the number to call to report. It used to be JULIE and there still is JULIE, go to illinois1call.com and submit a ticket that you are going to be doing a project. They will come out and put all the flags in your yard or you can call 811 and report your project and they will come out and mark all the utilities in your yard, it is free of charge, that way you know where everything is at before you start digging.”

Calling 811 before you dig helps protect you and your community. Hitting a buried line can disrupt utility services, cost you money to make repairs, or cause serious injury or death.
