It has been a fantastic start to the 2024 spring sports season for Abingdon-Avon high school. Starting with the A-Town softball team, the Lady Tornadoes are off to an 8-2 start to the season with their only losses on the season coming to Brimfield in March, and Havana in a 7-4 contest yesterday. Through 10 games the softball team is averaging 10.5 runs per game as they are currently on pace to put up a better record on the season than last year’s 18-13 mark. The Tornado baseball team is also in the midst of a hot start. Through 10 games for A-Town the boys are 9-1 with their only loss coming this past weekend in the second game of a doubleheader against United. As for the Tornado boys and girls track and field teams, they were recently at the Monmouth-Roseville Invitational at Sunny Lane Field in Monmouth. Abingdon-Avon has gotten great starts to the season from boys runners Carter Stroot and Jamil Johnson, and girls runners Kennedy and Kaydin Quinn.
Speaking on the WRAM Morning Show on Thursday, Abingdon-Avon Athletic Director Reid Kelso discussed the successful start for the spring sports teams.
The softball and baseball teams are scheduled to be back in action this week, with the boys hosting Eureka this afternoon at 4:30, and the girls traveling to Bushnell-Prairie City tomorrow. A-Town track and field teams are also scheduled to be in Orion tomorrow for the Charger invitational.
