Celebrating National Police Week

Share

The week of May 12th through May 18th is recognized as National Police Week, a time to honor and remember, shares Monmouth Police Chief Joe Switzer:

“It is a good week to recognize law enforcement officers in the state and in the nation. The police officers, they put a lot into the community and obviously we are protecting the community, protecting the citizens we are helping. We are there to help everybody. They love what they do and if you get the opportunity, if you can say thank you.”

In 1962, President John F. Kennedy signed a proclamation designating May 15th as Peace Officers Memorial Day and every year the week in which that date falls is recognized as Police Week.
