Mr. Christopher Daniel Lee “Chris” Smith, 51, of Galesburg, Illinois passed away at 9:46 pm, Monday, May 20, 2024, at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.

Chris was born July 23, 1972, in Galesburg, the second son of five boys of Delbert Lee and Betty (McClure) Smith.

Chris is survived by his brothers, Mark Smith of California, Matthew B. Smith of Kewanee, Illinois, Scott (Kathleen) Smith and Andrew (Rebecca) Smith both of Galesburg; three nieces, Nikki Lamb, Chloe, and Betty Smith; three nephews, Kevin, Darrin and Kyle Logsdon and his beloved cat, Mimi. He is preceded in death by his parents.

Chris graduated from Abingdon High School in 1991 and began working for the Abingdon Hardees. He continued his love of hospitality work at Happy Joe’s and later at the Fairfield Inn as the breakfast attendant. Chris also worked for Gates Rubber Company for over fourteen years. He grew up attending the Colonial Baptist Church, now called New Life Baptist Church. Chris enjoyed singing and collecting bird figurines.

A Memorial Visitation is scheduled for 5:00-5:30 pm, Thursday, May 30, 2024, at the New Life Baptist Church. A Celebration Service will follow at 5:30 pm at the church with Pastor Darrell Grimm officiating. Cremation has been accorded. Memorials may be made to the Family c/o Andrew Smith or Scott Smith. Hinchliff-Pearson West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Galesburg Chapel is assisting the family with the arrangements. Online condolences may be offered at www.h-p-w.com
