Prudence G. (Gunther) “Pru” Hillier, 78, of Galesburg, died Saturday, May 18, 2024, at home.

She was born October 26, 1945, in Galesburg at Cottage Hospital, the daughter of H. Dale and Marie (Maltby) Gunther.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Melissa J. and Brian D. Pettit; two grandchildren, Jakob Dale Pettit and Molly Marie Pettit; siblings, Pam Robinson and Peter (Mary Lou) Gunther; brother-in-law, Jamie Bjorkman; nephews and nieces, Peter Bjorkman, Cindy (Bjorkman) and Stephen Bosy, Zach Bosy, Isabelle Bosy, Kim (Robinson) Hawkinson, Kathy (Robinson) and Roger Cisco, Karen (Robinson) and Matt Bogen, Kurt and Jenni Robinson, Kristin (Gunther) and Jeff Michalczyk, Jason and Erica Gunther, Amanda (Gunther) and Zach Egli, and Jordan Gunther; several great nieces and nephews; and her good friends, Billie Ann Moss, Jean Ann Ashton, and Pam Gaskill. She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Michael D. Hillier; sister, Penny Bjorkman; brother-in-law, Donald Robinson; and nephew Matthew Dale Gunther.

Pru was raised and educated in Galesburg, graduating from Galesburg High School in 1963. She worked at the Galesburg Clinic for a number of years and most recently at Cottage Medical Arts Clinic for Dr. Hill. She was a 50-year member of Chapter W, P.E.O.

Pru was happiest when spending time with her family and especially her two grandchildren. She loved working in her yard and taking care of her many house plants. She had a great sense of humor and always looked forward to April Fools Day. Christmas Eve was always a special family time as she hosted all the family.

Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, May 24, 2024, at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral and Cremation Services of Galesburg. Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Saturday, May 25, 2024, at the chapel. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Knox College or a charity of the donor’s choice.
